Project Dahlia Patch: Come and Get Your Hands Dirty (in the Best Way)

There’s something quite special about this time of year on the farm.
The days are stretching out, everything is waking up, and the sense of anticipation is building… because very soon, it will be dahlia season.
And this year, it’s a big one.
A Field Full of Dahlias (Well… Almost)
By the end of May, I’ll have around 80 new dahlia plants ready to go into the ground.
If you’ve ever grown dahlias, you’ll know they’re worth every bit of effort, producing armfuls of the most beautiful, intricate blooms right through late summer and into autumn.
But first… they need planting.
And that’s where you come in.
A Day on the Flower Farm
I’m opening up the farm for a few relaxed, friendly volunteer sessions, nothing too formal, just a chance to:
Spend a morning or afternoon outdoors
Learn a little about how I grow cut flowers
Get stuck into planting (at your own pace!)
Chat flowers, life, and everything in between
No experience needed at all, just a willingness to get your hands a bit muddy.
The Important Bit: Cake & Company
This isn’t just about the work.
We’ll take time to pause, have a cuppa, eat something homemade, and enjoy being out on the farm together. It’s as much about the experience as it is about the planting.
🍰
Think of it as a gentle, feel-good few hours rather than a hard day’s labour.
A Little Thank You
As a thank you, you’ll receive a complimentary bouquet later in the season—featuring the very dahlias you helped plant 💐
There’s something quite lovely about that full-circle moment.
You’ll also head home with a couple of potted annuals for your own garden - perhaps cosmos, phlox, asters, or similar seasonal favourites.
Why I’m Doing This
Growing flowers can be quite a solitary job at times, and one of the things I love most is sharing it with others.
This feels like a simple way to:
Bring people onto the farm
Share a bit of what goes into British-grown flowers
Create something together
…and enjoy the process along the way.

Come Plant a Patch of Summer
There’s something quite grounding about planting flowers you know will bring joy months down the line.
If you fancy being part of that, from soil to stem, I’d love to welcome you to the farm.
